For teachers and course creators

Sell courses on Telegram with a paid study group

Telegram works well for teaching that happens over weeks. Lessons arrive as posts, files and voice notes, and students ask questions in the same place.

Students pay you directly through your own Stripe account, and MyMembers manages who has access to your course channel or study group.

Who this is for

  • Language teachers and tutors running group classes.
  • Exam preparation teachers with a study group that runs up to an exam date.
  • Course creators in programming, design, music, marketing or any subject that benefits from a community next to the lessons.
  • Writers and experts who teach through a paid channel of lessons and Q&A.
The model

How a paid course or study group works

Front door

A free public channel

A public channel is a sample of your teaching. Post one complete lesson, a weekly exercise with its solution, or answers to common questions. A reader should learn something real from it without paying.

The product

A paid channel or group

Most educators split the paid side in two. A private channel holds the lessons in order, so a new student can scroll from lesson one. A private group is the classroom, where students ask questions and post their work. One plan can unlock both.

The promise

What members get

List the syllabus, the number of lessons, how often new material appears, whether you give feedback on homework and how long access lasts. If the course has an end, say what happens after it.

Setup

Set up a paid course channel

Prepare the first lessons before you open the doors, so the first student to pay finds something to study.

  1. 1

    Connect Stripe

Complete onboarding and connect your own Stripe account. Students pay into it directly.

  2. 2

    Create your page

Your course page lives at mymembers.io/yourname. Put the syllabus and schedule in the description.

  3. 3

Fill the lessons channel, then connect it

Post your opening lessons and pin a contents post. Then add @mymembersadminbot to the channel, and to the study group, as an admin with full admin rights.

  4. 4

    Choose how students pay

Create a subscription billed in weeks, months or years, or a one-time price, and choose which channel and group it unlocks.

  5. 5

    Share the enrolment link

Post it in your public channel and anywhere your students already follow you. Each student is invited when they pay.

Pricing

Pricing patterns for courses and study groups

The right structure depends on whether your teaching has an end date.

Monthly membership

For ongoing communities where new lessons keep arriving, such as language practice or a study club.

Billed per term

Set the interval to every few months or every year to match a term or an exam cycle.

One-time payment

For a self-contained course: a single payment and no renewal.

Lessons only, or lessons plus classroom

A lower plan that unlocks the lessons channel, and a higher plan that adds the study group with your feedback.

Free sample over free trial

A lessons channel shows all its content at once, so a free trial gives away more than it would for a live service. A sample lesson in your public channel is often the better offer.

Coupons

A percentage or fixed amount off for early enrolment or returning students.

What to deliver so students stay

Students stay when they can see their own progress. Most of what follows is about making that progress visible.

Publish on a schedule
New lesson on fixed days, at a fixed time. A course that goes silent for two weeks loses its students even if the material is good.
Make the first hour easy
Pin a start-here post: where lesson one is, how the group works, what to do before the next session.
Give feedback people can use
Homework that nobody reads stops being handed in. If your page promises feedback, decide how much you can give and say so.
Keep the classroom on topic
Set the group rules on day one and moderate. A study group full of off-topic chat is hard for a serious student to use.
Teach with material you own
The acceptable use policy forbids selling content you do not have the rights to. That covers scanned textbooks and other people’s paid courses.
Be honest about outcomes
Do not promise grades, certificates you cannot issue, jobs or income. The policy forbids false or misleading claims about what subscribers get.

What it costs

MyMembers charges a 5% commission on each sale. There is no monthly fee, and the fee is invoiced monthly for the previous month. If you sell at high volume, we agree a lower rate with you. Payments go straight to your own Stripe account, where Stripe's own processing fees apply.

Smart Recovery, an optional service that tries to win back members who cancel or fail to renew, is on by default for new pages. You pay for it only when a member is recovered: 20% of the revenue it recovers, as set out in the terms. You can turn it off in your page settings.
